— Warriors fall to Bethany

Bacone watched as Bethany erupted for four runs in the third and six runs in the eighth to beat the Warriors 11-7 on Friday.

Bacone (2-3) fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first and 5-3 in the top of the third only to score twice in the third innings to tie the game at 5-5. The Warriors added a run in the sixth for a 6-5 lead before Bethany’s six-run eighth.

Tony Mendez, Anthony Seabolt and Jonathan Villela each had three hits while Eric Folkers drove in four runs for the Warriors. Alberto Pena (2-3) took the loss in relief.

Bacone beats Cent. Methodist

SHAWNEE – In their season opener, the Bacone Lady Warriors managed to upend Central Methodist 7-1 in the Saint Gregory’s Invitational.

The Lady Warriors scored in top of the first after Tarah Moutray singled home Kelli Costello; Moutray scored later in the inning off a double by Lucy Walter to give Bacone a 2-0 lead.

That turned out to be all Bacone needed as Taylor Paulson (1-0) shut down the Eagles attack; the senior allowed one run on five hits in the complete game.

Moutray finished three-for-four with three RBIs; Chelsea Schuler went one-for-four with two RBIs.

Connors State goes  1-2

FORT WORTH, Texas – Connors State Cowgirls posted a 1-2 record on the opening day of the prestigious Cowtown Softball Tournament Friday, defeating Labette County, Kan. 7-1 in their final game of the day.

The Cowgirls opened the tournament with an 11-3 loss to Weatherford, Texas, followed by a heartbreaking loss to North Central Texas, 7-6.

Connors is now 1-4 entering today’s schedule. The Cowgirls will play three games, battling Northeast Texas, Hill Community College and Ranger College.

Vian ex Chelsie Drew spearheaded the Cowgirls win over Labette with a solo home run in the third inning to give Connors an early 1-0 lead in the third inning.

Hilldale grad Kali Romine connected on a solo home runin the loss to North Texas.

OU’S Ricketts  opens with no-no

TEMPE, Ariz. – Oklahoma senior pitcher Keilani Ricketts threw the second no-hitter of her career, with 14 strikeouts, and hit a solo home run in the first inning as Oklahoma defeated Stanford, 6-0, in a season-opening win at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz., on Friday.

In the Sooners’ second game of the tournament against Oregon State, Michelle Gastoigne gave up two runs in the top of the first then held the Beavers scoreless as the Sooners run-ruled Oregon State 14-2.

Tahlequah ex Erica Sampson appeared in both games, going 0-for-1 in the first game while earning a walk in the fourth inning of the second game which drove in a run and scored a run on Lauren Chamberlain’s grand slam in the fourth inning.

TU softball grabs a pair

BATON ROUGE, La. – Junior outfielder Haley Henshaw drove in three runs in two games to lead the Tulsa softball team to wins over North Carolina, 3-1, and Hampton, 3-0, Friday at the LSU Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La., at Tiger Park.

Senior pitcher Lacey Middlebrooks (1-0) earned the win against Hampton with a one-hit shutout in the opener Friday morning. She struck out five batters and walked two. Junior Aimee Creger (1-0) picked up the complete-game win against North Carolina, striking out seven batters and scattering five hits.

Against North Carolina, Haskell ex Jodi Edmiston got things started in the sixth inning with a single to third base, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior center fielder Caitlin Everett. Jill Barrett doubled down the left field line, scoring Edmiston.

Cowgirls split

ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Oklahoma State softball team split its first two games of the 2013 season at the Red Dirt Classic in St. George, Utah on Friday.

In their opening game, the Cowgirls defeated Weber State 2-1 in eight innings. In game two, OSU fell 3-2 to Seattle.
