Sooners’ full-scale offensive assault ousts Aggies; WCWS title series rematch next

NORMAN — Oklahoma is headed back to the Super Regionals for a fifth straight time after dismantling Texas A&M 11-6 Sunday in the Norman Regional championship game.

The No. 7 Sooners (48-10) will take a season-best 15-game win streak to face 10th-seeded Tennessee in a rematch of last season’s Women’s College World Series final starting Friday, with the best-of-three series in Norman. Last year, OU took both games over the Vols to claim its second national title.

Every hitter in OU’s lineup had at least one hit. Destinee Martinez had the big day going 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Callie Parsons was 3-for-4.

“Destinee is on fire right now and we kind of put her down in the lineup to start things up in the 7, 8, 9; but Parsons is on fire right now,” head coach Patty Gasso said. “With Destinee at the top, she’s doing a really good job of table setting. She always, since she’s been here, has been really, really effective in the postseason and Parsons is starting to become the same way.”

The heart of the order — Lauren Chamberlain, Georgia Casey and Brittany Williams in the 3-5 spots — all homered. Chamberlain’s 10th was a two-run shot in the fourth, Williams (two-run shot in the seventh) and Casey (solo shot in second) hit their 12th each.

Kelsey Stevens picked up her 35th win of the season, which is tied for the fourth most in OU history. She allowed six runs on seven hits, including three two-run homers, but also struck out six and walked only one.
