OU, OSU combine for dozen spots on AP Big 12 team

The Associated Press announced its All-Big 12 teams on Monday and Oklahoma and Oklahoma State had a total of 12 student-athletes named to the squad.

OU, who beat OSU 33-24 on Saturday and will play Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, placed four members on the squad while freshman linebacker Dominique Alexander was named the Defensive Newcomer of the Year. Center Gabe Ikard and cornerback Aaron Colvin were named All-Big 12 first team, while defensive lineman Charles Tapper and placekicker Michael Hunnicutt were given second-team recognition.

The Cowboys, headed to the Cotton Bowl to play Missouri, had four players earn AP All-Big 12 first-team accolades with offensive lineman Parker Graham was OSU’s lone representative on the first-team offense, while defensive lineman Calvin Barnett, linebacker Caleb Lavey and cornerback Justin Gilbert achieved first-team status on the defensive side of the ball. OSU had three players named to the AP All-Big 12 second team — quarterback Clint Chelf, linebacker Shaun Lewis and safety Daytawion Lowe.
