College basketball roundup from Sunday

OSU MEN 76, NORTH CAROLINA STATE 56 — Le’Bryan Nash has 23 points and Marcus Smart added 20 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and Oklahoma State defeated No. 6 N.C. State in the title game of the Puerto Rico Tipoff on Sunday.

Phil Forte had 17 points for the Cowboys (4-0), who outrebounded the Wolfpack 45-34.

Rodney Purvis had 16 points and T.J. Warren added 15 points for the Wolfpack (3-1), who shot only 28.6 percent from the field.

“We have to come out and have a better start,” Purvis said. “But that won’t happen anymore. This can happen any night. We have a bull’s-eye on our back. We have to prepare ourselves physically and mentally for every game and come out here and play.”

Smart was the tournament MVP. He was joined by Nash, Warren, Tennessee’s Jarnell Stokes and Akron’s Zeke Marshall on the all-tournament team.

Smart finished with 18 points in the first half as the Cowboys led 38-28 at the break.

Nash took over the scoring load for Oklahoma State in second half. He scored 17 second-half points. Forte added 3 3-pointers in the second half.

OSU WOMEN 101, WEBER STATE 49 — Five Cowgirls scored in double figures in the romp over Weber State (0-3) at Stillwater. LaShawn Jones had 18 points, Toni Young 17, Liz Donohoe 13, and Brittany Martin and Lindsey Keller each with 10 points.

OSU (3-0) shot 63 percent on 23-of-36 shooting in the first half in leading at the break, 56-24. They were 58.9 percent (43-of-73) for the game.

OU WOMEN 68, SAINT LOUIS 33 — Nicole Griffin scored 15 points and Oklahoma (2-1) opened with a 19-0 run.

The Sooners (2-1) bounced back from an 86-80 home loss to UCLA on Wednesday by holding the Billikens (0-3) to 10 points in the first half, tying a school record for Oklahoma.

The Sooners led 40-10 at the break and Saint Louis didn’t get on the board until Jacy Bradley hit a 3-pointer with 11:09 remaining in the first half.

Aaryn Ellenberg scored 13 points and Whitney Hand had 11 points, plus team highs with six rebounds, four assists and three steals, for OU.
