OU guard gets Big 12 award

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma freshman guard Jordan Woodard has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week in basketball.

The conference announced the selection Monday after Woodard scored a career high 24 points and had five assists in OU’s 101-91 win over Tulsa on Saturday. Woodard scored 17 of his points from the free throw line.

Iowa State’s Georges Niang was named the conference player of the week.

OU improved to 9-1 with the win and will host Texas-Arlington on Tuesday at the Lloyd Noble Center before playing Texas A&M on Saturday in Houston as part of the Big 12-SEC Challenge.
