OSU, OU remain in contention in NCAA women’s golf regionals

Oklahoma State’s women’s golf team dropped three spots to eighth place after posting a 596 during its second round at the NCAA Central Regional on Friday at Karsten Creek in Stillwater.

The Cowgirls’ 20-over total of 596 tied them with Mississippi State for eighth place. UCLA moved up five spots with a 12-over total of 588 to lead at the par-72, 6,200 yards layout. Kent State’s Wad Phaewchimplee continued to lead the individual race, posting a 73 after opening with a 65. Her 6-under total put her four shots clear of UNLV’s Dana Finkelstein, who clinched second place today. Jayde Panos led the way for the Cowgirls, posting a 70 to stand in a tie for third place at 1-under 143. Panos is one of six players to finish under par on day two

Oklahoma jumped one spot to fourth place after the second round of the West Regional in Cle Elum, Wash., Friday at the 6,252-yard, par-72 Tumble Creek Golf Course at Suncadia Resort.

 The Sooners, 20 strokes ahead of the elimination line for the NCAA tournament, shot a second-round 7-over 295, good for a two-day 10-over 586 , and trail co-leaders USC  and Arizona State  by eight strokes.Washington sits in third place, six shots in front of OU.

Anne-Catherine Tanguay and freshman Alexandra Kaui led the Sooners on Friday, each carding a 1-over-par 73. Kaui, the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, is tied for sixth place out of 126 competitors at even par. Tanguay, who was at 4 under par on the day through 12 holes, is tied for 16th place with a 4-over 148. Kyung Kim of USC leads at 4-under 140.

The low eight teams and low two individuals not on an advancing team will move on to the 24-team NCAA Championships May 20-23 at the Tulsa Country Club.
