BACONE 6, ROGERS ST. 5 –
Bacone’s Tony Mendez came home with the game-winning run on a wild pitch by Rogers State’s Jesus Del Rosario in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Warriors’ Cody McBride was the beneficiary of the run, earning his first win of the season. McBride pitched the final two innings and surrendered one walk while striking out one batter.

Bacone (5-3) was led by Steven Smith, the only Warrior to have a multi-hit game, who finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. The other runs were scored by Eric Folkers, Antonio Horn and Anthony Seabolt while the remainder of the RBIs went to Folkers, Mendez, Enrique Meza and Kyle Pietryga.

OKLAHOMA 10, HOFSTRA 4 – The Oklahoma Sooners scored in only three innings but it was enough to beat Hofstra in their season opener on Friday in Norman.

The Sooners fell behind 1-0 after the top of the first but scored four times in the bottom of the frame. OU would tack on three runs in the fourth and three more in the seventh.

Dillon Overton go the start and received the win, tossing seven innings and giving up one unearned run while striking out seven and walking one.

Garrett Carey and Kolbey Carpenter were 2-for-4 and 2-for-3, respectively for the Sooners. Anthony Hermelyn and Matt Oberste both had three RBIs.

ARKANSAS 9, WESTERN ILLINOIS 1 –
Eric Fisher went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including his first collegiate home run, while Ryne Stanek, Trey Killian and Tyler Wright combined to allow just one run on three hits as No. 1 Arkansas defeated Western Illinois in the 2013 season opener on Friday at Baum Stadium.

Stanek started and picked up the win, throwing four innings and allowing one run on two hits with four strikeouts. Killian retired all nine batters he faced with one strikeout while Wright closed out the game with three strikeouts in two innings.

SAINT LOUIS 4, ORU 2 – It wasn’t exactly the start to the 2013 season the Oral Roberts baseball team was looking for on Friday, as the Golden Eagles dropped the season opener to Saint Louis, 4-2.

After ORU starter Jose Gonzalez set the Billikens down in order in the top of the first, sophomore Jose Trevino stepped to the plate, delivering a shot over the left field wall for the first run of the season for the Golden Eagles.

Gonzalez was tagged with the loss, pitching eight innings and allowing five hits and no earned runs.
