Sooners defeat Cowboys on the diamond in 18 innings

Kolbey Carpenter's RBI double down the left field line began a three-run Oklahoma inning in the 18th frame and the Sooners outlasted Oklahoma State 12-9 at Stillwater on Tuesday.

The three runs on four hits in the 18th were the first runs since Ryan Sluder's pinch-hit fielder's choice grounder tied the game in the ninth at 9-all.  OU (24-14)  hung four-spots in both the first two innings and led 8-3 as late as the fifth inning when the Cowboys struck for a run. OU would add a run in the sixth and OSU (26-11) answered with three in the eighth and two in the ninth.

A total of 16 pitchers were used, nine by OSU. Kindle Ladd (3-1) worked six innings, allowing just two hits to get the win. Sheldon Neuse worked the 18th for the save, giving up a walk. For OSU, Tyler Nurdin worked the final 3 1/3, giving up five hits, three runs, all earned.

OU outhit OSU 18-15.

The game was the second non-Big 12 contest between the two.  The three-game conference series will be played May 15-17.

OSU host Kansas in a three-game set starting Thursday when OU plays host to West Virginia, also for three games.
