Heavy rains flood parks and roadways around Fort Gibson Lake

April 29, 2008 04:40 pm

Recent storms, locally and upstream, have flooded roadways and parks on Fort Gibson Lake and steps are being taken to lower the lake level to normal. It will be a while before some closed public use areas are reopened. The dam at Fort Gibson is releasing water at a controlled rate to prevent flooding downstream. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lead Ranger for the lake, Tom Heathcock, explains what's taking place to ease the public's concerns. He reports depending on weather conditions, it could be a month before the lake returns to its normal level.
