TAHLEQUAH — Northeastern State's Sean Hughes scored two goals in the second half to put away Ouachita Baptist 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the NSU Soccer Complex.

The Redmen, ranked 24th in the latest NCAA poll, move to 4-1-1 on the year as the Tigers fall to 2-2.

Scoreless at intermission, NSU got things going midway through the second half when Hughes connected from five yards out to give the Redmen a 1-0 lead.

Hughes struck again just 10 minutes later as he took a free kick from Clark Bradford and dropped it in for the other goal.

NSU played keep away the rest of the half to gain the victory.

The Redmen travels to Eastern New Mexico for a 2 p.m. Friday match.

finish fourth

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Northeastern State's 308 was the second lowest round of the day and that propelled the Lady Reds to a fourth place showing at the Deerfield Inn Region Shootout at Rivercut Golf Club Tuesday.

Sophomore Stephanie Bird's one-over-par 73 paved the way for NSU to make the move. Bird finished the tournament in third place behind medalist Woori Shin of Redlands and Simone DeSouza of California, Pa.

NSU's scores included a 75 from freshman Cassy Knight, who ended her first collegiate tourney in a tie for 15th overall. Courtney Epps and Liz Cagle fired 80s and Katie Miller's 85 was dropped.
