State briefs: OU-Texas Tech reset, salute to Johnny Bench

From wire reports

OU-Texas Tech reset for Nov. 22

NORMAN — This year’s football game between Oklahoma and Texas Tech has been rescheduled for Nov. 22, officials from both schools said Tuesday.

The game originally had been scheduled for Nov. 15, but was moved because of the Big 12 Conference’s television package. Oklahoma had been scheduled to have a bye week on Nov. 22.

The Sooners now will have open dates on Sept. 20 and Nov. 15. Oklahoma will open its season on Aug. 30 at home against Tennessee-Chattanooga.

Texas Tech’s game against Baylor, originally scheduled for Nov. 22, now will be played on Nov. 29 in Lubbock, Texas. It will be the first time the Red Raiders have played after Thanksgiving since 2004.

The Red Raiders now will have open dates on Sept. 27 and Nov. 15. Texas Tech’s opener against Eastern Washington will be Aug. 30 at home.

Bourbon salute for ex-Red, Okie Bench

FLORENCE, Ky. — Former Cincinnati Reds great Johnny Bench will be honored with a limited edition bottle of Maker’s Mark bourbon.

The bottle, produced annually by Maker’s Mark the last five years to commemorate the Lane’s End Stakes at Turfway Park, will feature a photo of the Hall of Fame catcher and Binger, Okla., native, standing with a mask in one hand and a mitt in the other.

Maker’s Mark, based in Loretto, Ky., will produce 3,000 numbered bottles, which will go on sale March 14 in the Cincinnati area and northern Kentucky. Proceeds from the sale of the bottles will benefit the Reds’ Hall of Fame and Museum and the Johnny Bench Scholarship Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation.

Maker’s Mark bottles are known for their signature red-wax seal.

The Lane’s End Stakes, run annually at Turfway Park, is a prep race for the Kentucky Derby. It will be run this year on March 22.
