Track
MUSKOGEE COMPETES IN BIG D — The Roughers track team ran against what coach David Heath called an “eye opener” at the 44th Dallas Jesuit-Sheaner Relays, competing amid 31 schools from Texas’ top classification (5A), mostly Dallas-Fort Worth area teams.
“It was a chance for our kids to see some good track and good speed. Texas is known for having some of the best track in the nation and we got a good look at some of that,” he said.
Muskogee had 15 points for 16th place in the field. Garland, Texas, was first with 72 points. The Roughers’ best individual finish fourth in a pair of events — Brenton Bogar was fourth in the 100 meters, running 11.02 and Trae Cook was fourth in the high jump, clearing 6-foot-4 but going out at 6-6.
Andre Anderson, Bogar, Eric Hughes and Vernon Scott were fifth in the 1,600 relay (3:28:17) and the distance medley team of Anderson, Alec Brown, Cook and Lewayne Riley was sixth (11:49.96),
Muskogee is off until March 28 when they travel to Okmulgee.

Baseball
SPERRY 8, FORT GIBSON 0 — Sperry’s Dylan Bundy no-hit Fort Gibson on Saturday in the finals of the Sperry Tournament.
The loss was Fort Gibson’s first, dropping the Tigers to 5-1.
“We just couldn’t get anything going offensively, obviously, and had a few balls drop on us that could’ve been caught that added to it all,” FGHS coach Randy Smith said. “We didn’t play nearly up to where we’ve been but at least we did it in the finals of the tournament, so I credit them for getting this far.”
Fort Gibson is at Locust Grove on Monday.

PRESTON FESTIVAL —Gore went 0-2 on Saturday, losing 5-4 to Howe and 2-1 to Fort Cobb-Broxton. Against the latter, ranked No. 1 by Okrankings.com in Class A, Devan Rineheart allowed just three hits and one unearned run for the Pirates, now 5-5.
VIAN 6, LEXINGTON 2 — Vian (7-2) beat Lexington for its sixth straight victory and finished the Henryetta Festival at 3-0.
Ty Cato was 3-for-3 with an RBI, Brandon Barrett was 2-for-3 with a double and triple and scored twice and winning pitcher Mike Noeldner (2-0) gave up six hits in seven innings.
Vian is at Okay on Monday, 4 p.m.

Slowpitch softball
PRESTON FESTIVAL — Webbers Falls unloaded some serious lumber Saturday in putting up 43 runs and four home runs, including a pair of grand slams, in going 3-0 to finish the event with four wins in six games.
Jessica Hayes’ two-run single in the top of the sixth gave Webbers the go-ahead runs in a 12-11 victory over Morris. Ramie Toddy hit a two-run home run in the first inning and was then intentionally walked three times. Kimmy Carter was 3-for-4.
Carter and Toddy were 3-for-3 and Alisha Carter 2-for-2 in a 13-0 win over Eufaula that produced a no-hitter by Angel Leopard. Toddy drove in three of Webbers’ runs.
Toddy again homered, her fifth of the season, and intentionally walked three times in the 18-4 win over Checotah. But the biggest damage of that contest was Kimmy Carter’s two grand slams in the fourth inning that broke open a 5-4 game against the defending 5A quarterfinalists. That’s three home runs for her this season. Shelby Martin was 3-for-4 in the game.
Webbers moves to 6-2.
Oktaha went 1-2, beat Butner 1-0 and lost to Preston 11-0 and Morris 6-4. The Tigers are 3-4. Stephanie Howdeshell’s triple brought home Tiffany Tucker with what proved to be the game-winning run in the first against Butner. Megan Fry’s two-run home run got Oktaha to within 5-3 against Morris.
