Big bat lifts MHS to two wins

Phoenix staff report

MESA, Ariz. — Archie Bradley swung the hot bat Tuesday in helping Muskogee win two games at the Hawk Triple Play Classic.

Bradley slugged three home runs as the Roughers beat Fort Collins, Colo., 14-0 and Dobson, Ariz., 6-2. MHS improved to 6-4 for the season and 2-1 in the tourney.

“He had an outstanding day,” MHS coach Mack Chambers said. “He did a good job of swinging the stick.”

Bradley had six hits in eight trips to the plate in the two games and drove in seven runs. He also doubled in two runs during a four-run seventh inning in the win over Dobson. The freshman now has seven home runs for the season.

Cam’Ron Summers (2-0) and Mitch Stevenson (2-1) were the winning pitchers in the two games. Summers scattered four hits in the five-inning complete-game victory as the contest ended on the run rule, while Stevenson struck out five and Wes Newman collected his first save of the season in the win over Dobson.

“We got good pitching from Summers and Stevenson,” Chambers said.

Also in the first game, Stevenson had three hits and drove in two runs, while John Hamilton had two hits. In the second game, Summers had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs and DeAndrea Hamilton added a triple.

“It’s our goal to finish out the tournament at 4-1,” Chambers said.

Muskogee plays Eufaula at noon today.

Eufaula loses to Enid

The Ironheads had their winning streak to start the season end at seven games with the 19-0 loss to Enid. The Ironheads are 7-1 for the season.

“We didn’t show up and they did,” Eufaula coach Stacy Helms said. “They’re a Class 6A school and if everything had gone right, we could’ve played with them. It was a bad, bad day.”
