Area roundup, 03.22.08 NSU SPLITS — Chris Bennett struck out eight batters in seven innings and winning pitcher Matt Averitt (2-2) struck out three in two innings of relief as Northeastern State beat Southwestern 4-2 in the first game of a Lone Star Conference doubleheader at NSU’s Rousey Field on Friday.
Center fielder Kyle Davidson had three hits, while shortstop Blake Neighbors had two hits and left fielder Kevin Campbell drove in two runs. Davidson and Campbell each hit a triple. NSU, however, got a split in the twinbill as Southwestern roared back with a 17-8 victory in the second game. Davidson had thre hits, while Campbell, Neighbors, catcher Brian Musgrove each had two hits. Neighbors drove in three runs and had two doubles. The two teams meet again at 1 p.m. today as NSU is 10-18 overall and 6-13 in league play, while the Bulldogs are 8-19 and 6-16.
