Senior rodeos coming up this weekend

If you are turning 40 or older, you are in luck this weekend.

There will be four Senior Pro rodeos at the Muskogee Round-Up Club on Saturday and Sunday, two complete rodeos each day. The first rodeo begins at 10 a.m. daily.

They do not have rough stock events or steer wrestling – only the timed events. There is no gate admission, so spectators are welcome. There will also be an 8-10-12, 4/$20 team roping Saturday night. Books open at 7 p.m. and roping at 8 p.m. This roping is open to anyone – any age. For more information call Rick Ward at 684-7026.

The Coweta Round-Up Club will be having a cowboy flea market on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Set-ups are available for $15. For information call 357-5444.

The 30th Annual World’s Largest Steer Wrestling Jackpot takes place at the Checotah Round-Up Club arena on May 16-18. Truly a Checotah tradition. Here’s how the weekend will run:

On May 16, the Champion of Champions will be held with four go-rounds with the top 12 returning to the finals. The entry fee for the Champion of Champions is $500. There will be a buckle awarded to the average winner. Entries for this class closes at 11 a.m. and the competition begins at noon.

On May 17, the 19-under group starts with two go-rounds and an entry fee of $110. Buckles will be awarded to the average winner, the fastest time, and the 16-under incentive. Entries close at 11 a.m. with competition starting at noon.

Also on May 17 is the Battle Royal Tournament. Entry fee is $1,000 per man with a buckle awarded to the winner. The Battle is limited to eight entries.

Following the BRT is the 40-older with two go-rounds and a $125 entry fee. Buckles will be awarded to the average winner, fastest time, and 50-older incentive. Entries close at the end of first round of the 19 and under jackpot.

The events on May 17 will be featured on RFD-TV.

On May 18, the day begins with Cowboy Church at 9 a.m. Then there will be an open jackpot with two go-rounds, and an entry fee of $150. Buckles will be awarded to the average winner and the fastest time. Entries close at 11 a.m. and competition will begin at noon.

I asked if the legendary Roy Duvall would be competing. I was told that he will be there, but he will not be competing because he has officially retired.

Duvall won money at the first bull-dogging he ever entered and after many years of competition and championships, he retired from the sport by winning money.
