NSU’s Bird
tied for 28th

Northeastern State’s Stephanie Bird shot a 6-over-par 78 and is in a tie for 28th place at the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship at Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston.
The Las Vegas, Nev., junior and Lone Star Conference Player of the Year’s troubles started on the fourth hole with a bogey and a double on the sixth led to a 3-over par score through nine holes. She would bogey 12 before collecting a birdie on the 12th to stay at three-over par, but then bogeyed three of the final six holes.
Heather Burgner of Florida Southern has the first-round lead after a 2-under-par 70.
Bird qualified for the event at last week’s West Regional in Phoenix as she finished second. It’s her second year in a row to qualify for the national tournament.
Nova Southeastern leads the team standings at 292, one stroke ahead of Rollins.
