Phoenix Sports Writer It was a chance that Ryan Bay couldn’t pass up. After working the last three years as Bacone College’s head baseball coach, Bay has taken the same job at Northwestern Oklahoma State. He becomes the Rangers’ fourth coach in the last 40 years. “Being at a state school is definitely an attraction,” Bay said. “They’re in the midst of exciting renovations to their athletic facilities. I don’t see it necessarily leaving Bacone behind as much as I’m moving toward another opportunity.” Bay leaves Bacone with a 105-54 record, which included a Red River Athletic Conference North Division title in 2007 and a No. 18 ranking in the NAIA national polls in 2008. “I had a good three years and we accomplished a lot,” he said. “I enjoyed my time (at Bacone). My family (wife Denise and four-year-old son Bryer) and I are looking forward to another challenge.” Bay, a native of Perry, replaces Joe Phillips. Phillips coached baseball at Northwestern for 20 years and had a 452-527 record at the Alva school. The Rangers finished 8-36 this season. Before coaching at Bacone, Bay was hitting and outfield coach at Northern-Enid and an assistant coach at Missouri Valley College. He played at Missouri Valley and a four-year starter in the outfield and led the Heart of America Conference in stolen bases in with 39 in 1997. Dino Rosato, an assistant to Bay at Bacone for the three years, becomes the new Warriors’ head coach, effective Monday. He was an assistant at Ohio Dominican University in 2005 when it had a 47-18 record and reached the NAIA World Series. He has degrees from St. Thomas University in Miami and East Central University. Bay is glad he got the job. “I’m more at ease from the standpoint on what’s going to happen with Bacone baseball,” he said.
