Heat bears down on prep team camp By Mike KaysPhoenix Sports Editor Warner coach Curt Denton is searching for potential hole-fillers. The Eagles must fill eight starting positions on both sides of the football.
That made for some tough challenges in the heat. “With skill people, it’s not as physical but those linemen going both ways can struggle in this heat,” Denton said. “Small schools usually have that problem and we’re certainly no different.” Today’s portion will consist of a team tournament. Muskogee will play Tulsa Central, Poteau and Sequoyah in succession in 20-minute halves starting at 9:30 a.m. Those four will rotate against each other in that time with Sequoyah taking on Poteau at 9:30 a.m. Central has quarterback Demarco Cobbs, ranked by Rivals.com as the top prospect in the state. Scout.com has him as the nation’s No. 3 wide receiver prospect. Among the small schools, Pocola plays Gore and Afton takes on Warner at 9:30 a.m. The camp concludes just after noon.
