Dale Richardson back in familiar territory

OKTAHA — Dale Richardson returned to familiar territory in the Hobby Stock Division at the Outlaw Motor Speedway on Friday night and set a record in the process.

The Muskogee driver took the lead on the 12th lap on the way to winning the 20-lap feature, his first win in four weeks or since July 14.

Driving his 327 car, Richardson has 10 feature wins this season, breaking the division record of nine set by Okay’s Andy Morris in 2005.

“We’ve been working on this car a long time,” he said. “It’s good to win again and I’m looking for Race for the Chase.”

Third in the division’s points standings, Richardson and the top 10 drivers in all of the other classes now begin the race for the championship in their respective divisions starting next week.

The points leaders in each division going into last Friday’s racing action included Tahlequah’s Jason Ward in the Pure Stock, Spiro’s Brookin Stephens in the Pure Stock, Glenpool’s Jake Kelley in he Modified and Bixby’s Greg Skaggs in the Outlaw Modified.

Meanwhile, Sapulpa’s Justin Green started on the pole and led for 12 laps before dropping out and Richardson overtook him on the fourth turn. Richardson started out on the outside in the fifth row.

Seven of the original field of 17 cars finished the race.

Outlaw Modified

Skaggs returned after a blown motor last week to take his 12th feature win of the season and his fifth in the last six weeks in the division once called Super Modified.

“We put in a motor that’s about six years old,” he said. “It runs almost as good as the old one we had.”

Fort Gibson’s Justin Fulton was second and Chelsea’s Joe Duvall took third place.

“Justin was right there with me,” Skaggs said.

Dustin Davis of Kansas, Okla. rolled his car onto its side on the last lap, but he climbed out of it, apparently unhurt.
