Fourth annual Connie Combs Challenge begins in Checotah



The introductory jackpot at Bart and Mika Barton’s arena was a very enjoyable evening. They have a nice big arena with good ground, plenty of parking, and the Bartons are very hospitable. The results of the Sunday jackpot were: First Division, 1, Shawna Anderson; 2, Tiffany Lyons; Second Division, 1, Helen Chastain; 2, Donna Horton; Third Division, 1, Eden Maples; 2, Rhonda Stewart.. They will not run on Monday, Sept.1 (Labor Day), but will begin a 4-week series on Monday, Sept. 8. Gist trophy buckles will be awarded to the division champions of this series. On Saturday, Sept. 6, the Fourth annual Connie Combs Challenge will be run at the Checotah Round-Up Club. This will be a 4-D barrel race with $1,200 added money. Open division winners will receive Dale Chavez trophy buckles, Youth (12 & Under) division winners will receive trophy Connie Combs breastcollars and reserve champions will receive trophy Connie Combs halters. There will also be prizes awarded in the PeeWee (8 & Under) class. Pre-entries will be taken until Sept. 3. There will no late fees if you do not pre-enter; however, they will only accept cash on the day of the race. The Clint Cagle Memorial Calf Roping and $1,000 Added Barrel Race will be held on Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Clint Cagle Memorial Rodeo Arena in Wagoner. They always try to schedule it on the Sunday following Labor Day. I will have complete information for you by next Thursday’s column. There is also a Sooner Barrel Racing jackpot at the Muskogee Round-Up Club on this date. For those wishing to enter both barrel races, there will be a telephone number to call when you leave Muskogee and head to Wagoner. They will have the cattle events first so barrel racers can make both barrel jackpots.

On Sept. 12-13, Coweta will be hosting their 2008 Fall Festival Rodeo. Stock will be furnished by the Loose Rowel Rodeo Company. Rough stock entries MUST call in. Rough stock books open: 9-8-08, 6:30-9:30 p.m., phone 857-1785. Timed event books will close nightly at 7 p.m. General admission is $6, children 7-12 is $3, and kids 6 and under get in free.
