Phoenix Sports Writer With a step up in competition, Hilldale’s coaches look to increase their evaluation when the Hornets have their last preseason football scrimmage tonight. The Hornets play host to two Class 5A opponents, Tahlequah and Pryor, at 7 p.m. Coach Don Hendrix said he and his staff are taking a closer look at their personnel in this scrimmage. “We’ve got to find guys we think we can depend on Friday nights,” he said. “Maybe we have some guy we’re missing, maybe he’s out of position a little bit or maybe a guy who will shine that we haven’t seen yet.” Last week, the Hornets scrimmaged at home against Jay and Kellyville. After watching the films, Hendrix was pleased. “The kids really played hard. I saw a lot of hustle on the field,” he said. “Our offensive line was better than we thought. The defensive line got used to Kellyville’s offense and adjusted to that.” In tonight’s scrimmage, the Hornets are going to be tested, particularly by Tahlequah. “They’re going to have good talent and good numbers,” Hendrix said. The Hornets also plan to use the scrimmage to work on their shotgun offense. “We didn’t do it a lot last year until the end of the season,” Hendrix said. “(Quarterback) Taylor Chalk throws pretty good on the move and we want to take advantage of what he can do. It was our two-minute offense most of the time last year and we don’t want it to be the two-minute offense this season.” Tonight’s scrimmage is a laundry detergent and white towel scrimmage, fans that bring in those items will get into Hornet Stadium free.
