Monster truck, OCRS and Week 4 of champ chase tonight at Outlaw

Special to the Phoenix

Monster Truck the Barbarian will be making its Outlaw Motor Speedway debut tonight, joined by the Oil Capital Racing Series sprint cars in their final 2008 season appearance.

Those as well as all local divisions of racing will be at the track. Local divisions — Pure Stock, Hobby Stock, Super Modified and Outlaw Modified are in week four of eight in OMS’s “Race for the Championship.”

Last time the winged warriors from OCRS stopped by, Rafe Essary picked up his first sprint win a after Tulsa’s Mike Goodman lost his second power plant. Goodman is the career OCRS wins leader at OMS with six.

All four local division titles are still up for grabs as Chouteau’s Brandie Levasseur is back in the points lead, just ahead of Boynton’s James Gillean and Tahlequah’s Jason Ward in Pure Stock. Levasseur held the points lead just over seven weeks ago but lost it to Ward who lost the lead to Gillean two weeks ago.

Brookin Stephens from Spiro is leading in Hobby Stock ahead of Muskogee’s Randy Moses II and Inola’s Justin Shoemaker.

Dennis Slader of Muskogee is ahead of Bragg’s Patrick Goodnight and Jake Kelley of Glenpool in Economy / Super Modified.

Bixby’s Greg Skaggs is running away with the Outlaw Modified title with Muskogee’s Tate Cole and Chouteau’s Jeran Frailey in second and third respectively.

Outlaw Modified will race for $1,000 to win and $100 to start, Super Modified $500 to win, Hobby Stock $500 to win and Pure Stock $500 to win.

Activities begin at 7 p.m. Grandstand gates open at 6 p.m. and pits at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids 6-12.

Next Friday, OMS is having a Racing Legends Night. This event will recognize numerous racers from years past from the Muskogee area. There will be a Legends Dinner for our honored guests at 6 p.m. and a special intermission program recognizing them.
