Prep softball regional roundup

“We went down fighting,” Hilldale coach Matt Ross said.

CLASS 3A REGIONALS at Sequoyah — After sweeping through Thursday’s games against Panama and Wilburton, Sequoyah found itself playing against Panama again on Friday for the right to go to the State Tournament.

The Lady Indians had defeated Panama 3-0 in their opener a day before, and like she did on Thursday, Sequoyah starting pitcher Courtney Glass tossed a complete game, earning the 6-4 win.

Glass (33-5) struck out four as the Lady Indians clinched a berth in the fastpitch state tournament for the first time in school history.

Nikki Lewis had three hits, and Glass knocked in two crucial runs in the fourth inning. Her only hit of the day, it scored two runs to give Sequoyah a 6-0 lead. Panama tacked on four runs from there and her single ended up being the difference.

CLASS 2A REGIONALS at Porum — The Lady Eagles (16-15) only managed four hits, including a double by Brooke Stidham, while being knocked out from the Class 2A playoffs in losing 13-0 to Headlton in the regionals at the Porum diamond Friday.

Kaitlyn Teague (10-8) was the losing pitcher in the finale. Earlier, Warner eliminated Sallisaw Central 4-2 as Jori McPeak had two hits and Macy Carman (6-7) was the winning pitcher. Warner eliminated Porum 5-4 on Thursday.

CLASS 2A REGIONALS at Oktaha — Oktaha lost twice to Stroud on Friday, 7-2 and 8-0, and was eliminated just short of the State Tournament.

The Lady Tigers finished the season with a 13-19 record.

CLASS A REGIONALS at Dewar — Amber Webb’s diving snag and throw home just missed the force out on the eventual winning run and Porter’s Lady Pirates were just that close to a state fastpitch tournament berth here Friday.

The play enabled Dewar to beat Porter 3-2 in nine innings in the regional final. Porter earned the title matchup by knocking off Barnsdall 8-3.
