Cowboys players, coaches penalized

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The NCAA has penalized members of the Oklahoma State University baseball team for an angry outburst involving coaches and players during the regionals of last season’s NCAA Division I Baseball Championship in Stillwater.

Players Luis Flores and Matt Hague were ejected in the incident along with head coach Frank Anderson and assistant coach Greg Evans.

The NCAA Division I Baseball Committee announced Thursday that it took the following action on the misconduct penalties:

• Publicly reprimanded Flores, Hague, Evans and Anderson.

• Deducted per diem and travel expenses associated with the game for these four.

• Suspended Evans from the first game of the 2009 baseball championship should Oklahoma State qualify to participate.

“The committee recognizes the heightened level of intensity surrounding the Regionals of the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, nevertheless, such behavior by the student-athletes and the coaches in question cannot be tolerated during an NCAA championship,” Larry Templeton, chair of the Division I Baseball Committee, said in a statement released by the NCAA.

The angry outburst came toward the end of Oklahoma State’s loss to Wichita State, which eliminated the Cowboys from postseason play.
