Playoff scenarios up in air going into final week

From Phoenix staff reports

Going into the last week of the regular season, playoff scenarios for area teams still in are as follows:

6A-3

Muskogee (2-6, 2-4) — All’s available is fourth place and a trip to Union next week. The Roughers must win at home against last-place Tulsa Memorial and hope Sand Springs loses to Jenks. If Claremore then loses to Sapulpa, Muskogee wins fourth by virtue of head-to-head against Sand Springs. If Claremore wins, it goes to a tiebreaker in marginal points and Muskogee can clinch with a win of 11 or more points. That margin would also keep Claremore’s victory from hurting them as the Zebras trail Muskogee by six in marginal points.

4A-4

Wagoner (6-3, 4-2)— Realistically, the Bulldogs will advance as the fourth place team if they beat Hilldale and there are no upsets in the district in week 10. Broken Bow hosts Fort Gibson and Sallisaw plays Tulsa Webster. If Broken Bow and Sallisaw both win, Sallisaw and Broken Bow would finish 1-2 in that order. Poteau, sitting in third, plays Muldrow and the Pirates hold the tiebreaker advantage over Wagoner in head-to-head. A loss by Sallisaw or Poteau could push the Bulldogs as high as second place.

Hilldale (5-4, 3-3) — The Hornets must beat Wagoner. A loss ends their season. However, a win does not guarantee a postseason berth unless Poteau defeats Muldrow. Should Poteau lose, the marginal points difference between Hilldale’s win and Poteau’s loss must favor Hilldale by eight or more points.

3A-4

Checotah (7-2, 4-2) — Is in a three-way tie for second with Roland and Okmulgee with Roland owning the tiebreaker over both by virtue of wins over both. Should the Wildcats beat or lose by two points or less at four-loss Hugo, the Wildcats get no worse than third. Checotah has head-to-head and marginal points over Okmulgee (17 points) and could host a first-round game and finish second with a win and a Bristow upset of Roland.

2A-6
