Phoenix staff report

Ten area prep football teams are in and depending on Friday’s action, there could be an even dozen area teams that begin playoff action next week
Two, including Muskogee, have their spot secured and can scout a playoff game next week if they choose. Eight will clarify their positioning by virtue of what they do Friday, and among that mix, some crazy stuff could come out of at least one district race if the chips and the outcomes fall just right.
For an area-wide look at who stands where, read on. All first-round playoff games are scheduled to be played Friday, Nov. 14.
In, but what’s next?
Muskogee
6-3, 5-1 6A-3
Will finish second regardless of Friday’s outcome at Tulsa Memorial and face the 6A-4 third-place team, the Stillwater-Owasso loser, in the first round of the playoffs at Indian Bowl.
Wagoner
5-4, 4-2 4A-4
Finishes third and plays the 4A-3 runner-up, the Oologah-Collinsville winner, on the road.
Checotah
9-0, 6-0 3A-4
Wins District 3A-4 by beating Hugo (6-3, 5-1) and would face the 3A-3 fourth-place team, the Berryhill-Dewey winner. A loss coupled with a Metro Christian (7-2, 5-1) win would send the district title to a points tiebreaker. Checotah would need to lose by more than 11 or more to drop to second, having a 26-point advantage over Metro Christian and 51 over Hugo. Checotah cannot finish third.
The runner-up gets a home game against Perkins-Tryon, the third-place team Claremore Sequoyah, the 3A-3 runner-up.
Eufaula
8-1, 6-0 2A-5
Plays at Chandler (9-0, 6-0) for the championship next week and would get the fourth-place team from 2A-6, the Heavener-Spiro winner, at home in the first round by winning. A loss and the Ironheads host Valliant, the third-place team from 2A-6.
Stigler
6-3, 5-1 2A-6
Will finish as the district runner-up and will face the 2A-5 third-place team, which will likely be Beggs.
Vian
7-2, 5-1 2A-8
Wins district by beating winless Chouteau on Friday at home and would host 2A-7’s fourth-place team (Nowata, Sperry or Verdigris). Lose and read on.
Sequoyah
8-1, 5-1 2A-8
A Vian loss gives Sequoyah the chance to win district by winning at home against Colcord (6-3, 4-2). A loss to Colcord and a Vian loss creates a four-way tie for the title between those three teams and the Westville-Keys winner. The points are too close to call as Sequoyah and Vian have 53, Colcord 50, Keys 30 and Westville 23.
Gore
7-2, 6-2 A-6
Has clinched a playoff spot and can finish third with a win at Savanna (7-2, 6-2) on Thursday. The winner goes to A-5 runner-up Dewar, the loser gets the A-5 champion, Stroud.
Porter
8-1, 6-1 B-4
A win keeps the Pirates (8-1, 6-1) in second place. A loss and a win by Welch (7-2, 6-1) over Copan (9-0, 7-0) in a combination of point differentials favoring Welch by 14 or more would drop Porter to third. Copan owns the tiebreaker for the championship over both teams. Porter’s first-round opponent either way will be Davenport or Depew.
Midway
6-3, 6-1 C-4
Finishes second with a win at Claremore Christian (6-3, 5-2) or with a win by Bakoshe (6-2, 5-2) over Sasakwa (6-3, 4-3). A Claremore win and Bakoshe win would create a three-way tie for second and Midway has clinched a points tiebreaker. A Sasakwa win and a Midway loss is the only way the Chargers finish third. Midway’s first-round opponent will be either Deer Creek-Lamont or Covington-Douglas.
In with a win
Keys
4-5, 4-2 2A-8
Is out with a loss. Clinches a playoff spot by beating Westville (6-3, 4-2) and would finish third if Sequoyah beats Colcord. The third-place finisher will go to the 2A-8 champion, the Lincoln Christian-Nowata winner. A Keys win and a Colcord win would force a three-way tie for second or a four-way tie for fourth should Vian lose.
Haskell
5-4, 5-3 A-7
Makes the playoffs as the fourth-place team with a home victory against Hominy (6-3, 5-3) and would play A-8 winner Commerce.
