Published December 17, 2007 12:22 am - Porum cowboy shines in finals LAS VEGAS — Porum cowboy Justin McDaniel had a week to remember at the Natinoal Finals Rodeo, which wrapped up this weekend.
McDaniel finished fifth in bareback riding Friday's 10th and final round and wound up third in the finals, scoring 827.5/10 points. He pocketed $26,971.15 for his efforts. Will Lowe of Canyon, Texas, was first in both the 10th round and overall, totaling 947 points.. Jessy Davis of Pryson, Utah, was second with 830 points. McDaniel was third in the world standings behind Bobby Mote of Culver, Ore., and Lowe and finished the year with a total earnings of $183,149. McDaniel was also first in bareback riding in Round 7 on Wednesday and second in Round 5 and set a NFR and Thomas & Mack Center arena bareback record with a 91.5-point ride on Delta Ship in the third round of the season-ending event. The previous record of 91 was set by Lowe in 2002 on Big Bear Sign Dip. McDaniel was the 2007 Wrangler Tour champion, pocketing $63,692.
