— WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Another rally by the No. 25 Bacone Warriors was thwarted as they fell 38-34 to Southwestern Assemblies of God on Saturday night.

After the Lions scored late the Warriors received the ball at their own 25-yard line with 2:15 remaining, trailing 38-34.

Karl Birkenfield led Bacone down the field as the Warriors faced a second-and-goal from the five-yard line with 20 seconds left.

Birkenfield rolled out to his right and fumbled the football directly into a horde of Lions who recovered and ran out the clock to give SWAGU the 38-34 victory.

The senior quarterback finished 17-of-31 for 269 yards, three touchdowns and one interception; Birkenfield also led the ground game with 82 yards and two scores.

Giorgio Walton led the Bacone defense in total tackles with eight.

Bacone concludes the regular season at 7-4 and 3-2 in the Central States Football League.
