Bacone sweeps in New Mexico

HOBBS, N.M. — The Bacone Warriors and Lady Warriors picked up a pair of conference wins Thursday night against the University of the Southwest.

The Lady Warriors built a 49-38 halftime advantage before going on to to win 89-76 and improved to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in the RRAC.

On the night Bacone knocked down 43 percent (33-of-76) and were led in scoring by Dametria Dawson who racked up 23 points.

Myriah Hadnot finished with 17, Mariah Sweeney added 15 and Kayla Denton chipped in 10 points for the Lady Warriors.

On the men’s side the Warriors led 51-36 at halftime, the difference in an 88-73 victory over Southwest. Bacone hit 53 percent (37-of-69) from the field and controlled the rebounding advantage 48-27.

Deantre Harlan led Bacone in scoring with 22, Creed Flowers added 19 and Christian Smith finished with 13. Former Tahlequah standout Matt Qualls made his season debut for the Warriors and tallied 11 points and five rebounds.

The Warriors (5-8, 3-0) host Wiley College next Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Lady Warriors (3-5, 2-1) face Ecclesia College on Monday at the Palmer Center.
