Haymakers knock out Oktaha

(Continued)

Spiro 82, Hulbert 45

Class 3A’s  fourth-ranked Bulldogs looked like a team that should be playing in the large school division as they used full-court pressure to convert six Hulbert turnovers into points in the first two minutes before the Riders knew what hit them and jumped out to a 16-2 lead.

“They’re just good all-around and they’ve got speed that we just haven’t seen,” said Hulbert head coach Dustin Gist. “We adjusted somewhat in the second half and played better, but they didn’t press us as much either.”

Leading 29-10, the undefeated Bulldogs (8-0) went on a 14-0 run to really break things open early in the second quarter. The much quicker and stronger Bulldogs got 24 points from 6-foot-4 junior forward McKinley Whitfield while Timothy Perry with 14 and Tyquan Seymour with 10 joined McKinley in double figures.

The Riders (5-3) had two players in double digits with Parker Taylor knocking down 15 points on the night and Mason Fielden adding 14.
