Tied 70-70 with 2:38 remaining the Bacone Warriors managed to outscore the Wiley College Wildcats 12-2 the rest of the way to snatch an 82-72 victory Saturday night at the Palmer Center.
“We were finally able to make winning plays down the stretch,” head coach Alan Foster said. “Up to this point we haven’t closed out games like we needed to but we did tonight.”
With the game knotted up at 70-70 the Warriors were able to get in front, courtesy of three free throws by Christian Smith. Bacone led 73-70 before Kwame Bates scored to give the Warriors a 75-70 edge with 59 seconds left.
The Warriors (3-13, 1-9 RRAC) led by six with 27 seconds remaining when Wiley’s Vanderis Christie turned the ball over which led to dunk by Creed Flowers, giving Bacone an 80-72 lead with under 20 seconds left.
Smith led a quartet of scorers with25 points and 11 boards; Flowers finished with 18, Bates chipped in 13 and Derrick Thomas added 15.

On the flip side the Lady Warriors played tough but ultimately fell short of No. 18 Wiley College.
After two free throws by Danielle Reed the Lady Warriors (4-10, 3-7) trailed 66-57 with 5:09 but would not get any closer in the second half.
Bacone hit 33 percent (19 of 57) from the field and converted 21 of 36 free throws but also turned the ball over 31 times; Kyna Lewis led the Lady Warriors with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Myriah Hadnot also finished in double figures with 11 points.
Bacone plays LSU-Shreveport Monday night at 5:30 and 7:30.
