A hot hand by Bacone's Derrick Thomas snapped the Warriors six-game skid as they defeated the University of the Southwest on Saturday.

Thomas finished with 42 points on 14 of 19 shooting with six three-pointers.

Bacone for the game knocked down 53 percent (36 of 67) and went 11 for 17 from three-point range.

Creed Flowers added 13 and Irving Levine chipped in 10.

The Warriors (4-19, 2-14) face Texas Wesleyan on Monday night on the road.

VANDERBILT 67, ARKANSAS 49 – Rod Odom scored 15 points, and the Vanderbilt Commodores beat Arkansas Saturday to snap a four-game losing skid and get a bit of payback for one of their ugliest losses this season.

Vanderbilt (9-13, 3-7 Southeastern Conference) managed only 11 points by halftime and matched a season-low in points while losing 56-33 to Arkansas on Jan. 12 in Fayetteville. This time, the Commodores held Arkansas to a season low in scoring.

Sheldon Jeter added 13 points and Josh Henderson had 11 for the Commodores.

Arkansas (14-9, 5-5) failed to follow up its 80-69 upset of No. 2 Florida on Tuesday night, and the Razorbacks still remain winless this season in true road games. They’ve lost all six, including their first four league games.

Mardracus Wade led Arkansas with 13 points. Marshawn Powell played only three minutes of the first half after picking up two quick fouls, and the junior forward who had been averaging 15.1 points a game finished with five points before fouling out with 3:20 to go.

S.F. AUSTIN 77, ORAL ROBERTS 67 – Stephen F. Austin out-scored Oral Roberts 15-2 over a span of 5:32, stretching from the first half to the second and the run proved too much to overcome as ORU fell Saturday night at Johnson Coliseum.

Damen Bell-Holter led ORU with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Warren Niles added 19 points, all in the second half. Shawn Glover scored 12 points, all in the first half and played just 39 seconds in the second half before leaving the game with a cut near his eye.

ORU shot 40 percent (21-52) for the game and 73 percent from the free throw line.

SFA finished the game just shy of 50 percent (26-53) and hit six 3-pointers.


The Lady Warriors battled from beginning to end, outlasting the Lady Mustangs.

For the game Bacone hit 37 percent (25 of 67) while going 15 for 23 at the free throw line.

Destinee Duncan led Bacone with 14 points and Danielle Reed added 13.

Bacone (7-14, 6-11) travel to face Texas Wesleyan on Monday.

ORAL ROBERTS 68, S.F. AUSTIN 64 – Oral Roberts University’s senior class stood tall on Saturday afternoon, guiding the Golden Eagles to a 68-64 win over Stephen F. Austin at Johnson Coliseum in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Kevi Luper led the Golden Eagles (11-11, 8-4 Southland) with 30 points in the win, while Jaci Bigham added a season-high 26 points to go with eight assists.

Bigham’s first assist of the game was a big one, as a feed to Sarah Shelton with 18:33 left in the first half was the 604th of the McAlester native’s career, setting a new ORU record.

Luper was 14-for-25 from the floor, while Bigham hit her first six 3-point attempts and finished 6-for-8 from downtown.

Daylyn Harris led SFA (10-13, 5-7 SLC) with 16 points.

ORU shot 45.8 percent for the game. The Ladyjacks shot at a 50-percent clip, but hit just 40 percent of their field goal attempts in the second half.

ORU forced Stephen F. Austin into 25 turnovers on the day.
