Three Rivers still perfect

ADA – The Three Rivers Bandits from American Legion Post 213 improved to 4-0 on the season with three wins on Sunday over Ada Post 72 at East Central university.

The Bandits had to complete a suspended game from Saturday and scored two runs in the ninth to win 6-5. Three Rivers then swept a scheduled doubleheader, 5-4 and 10-0 in five innings.

In the completed game, Checotah’s Caleb Knight, the 2014 All-Phoenix MVP, got the rally started on an infield single and came home on former Warner Eagle, and current Connors State Cowboy Tim Smithson’s RBI double to make the score 5-4. Smithson scored an insurance run when he came home on an error. Wagoner’s Preston Whitten pitched all five innings and got the win.

The first game of the doubleheader saw Checotah’s Jack Christian, a member of the 2014 All-Phoenix team, pitch all seven innings to record the win. With the score tied 3-3 in the sixth, Fort Gibson’s Boo Seward brought home A.J. Deason and Coby Huval with a single to give the Bandits a 5-3 advantage.

Ryan Collins pitched a one-hit shutout in the nightcap with 10 strikeouts. Brennan Davis got the Bandits on the board in the first inning with a three-run double. Later in the game, Knight hit a solo home run while Huval hit a two-run blast.

The Bandits take the field at Okmulgee at 6 p.m. Wednesday for their next action and will play Muskogee High School at Roughers Park on Friday.
