Muskogee girls bounce back, will play for fifth in Moore

Phoenix Staff Reports

— Muskogee battled another team with a size factor in their advantage Friday but this time got a different outcome.

Three Lady Roughers scored in double figures, two with double-doubles, as the Lady Roughers knocked off Southmoore 50-40 in the John Nobles Invitational at Moore.

Lanice Rozell scored 18 points and Aaliyah Wilson 17, each adding 11 rebounds to their day’s work. Jada Ford had 11 points.

Muskogee bounced back after an opening-round loss to Lawton Eisenhower that ended a run of six straight regular season tournament championships and will face Lawton, a 56-52 winner over Tahlequah, for fifth place Saturday  in a 1 p.m. tip.

“We didn’t play as well as we could have but yeah, we bounced back,” Muskogee coach Doyle Rowland said. “Our rebounding and intensity was what I thought set the stage of our comeback and our execution was a little better.”

Muskogee trailed 11-7 before outscoring the SaberCats 35-14 in the middle two quarters.

“They were big so we went with our 2-3 zone that slowed the scoring but our movement and intensity was good,” he said.
