Hilldale ex named All-American
Former Hilldale Hornet Jarrard Poteete received his first national collegiate baseball award when he was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team last week.
Poteete was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman team and received All-Big 12 honorable mention during his first collegiate season. He batted .280 (47-for-168) with 34 runs, 10 doubles, three home runs and 25 RBI while leading the team with 35 walks and a .411 on-base percentage.
Former Rougher on Va. first team
On Monday, Muskogee grad Mitch Stephenson was named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors College Division All-State first team.
Stephenson, who plays collegiately at Southern Virginia University, is the first baseball player at SVU to receive the first-team honor and the fourth in school to be named all-state.
Stephenson led Southern Virginia in 2013 with a .478 batting average and a .516 on-base percentage while registering team-highs in RBIs (29), hits (54), runs (37), slugging percentage (.673) and doubles (15).
