NSU women 6th in NCAA regional
LAKE ELMO, Minn. – The Northeastern State women’s golf team sits in sixth after Monday’s second round of the NCAA Division II Central Region Championship, which is being held at the Tartan Park Golf Club.
The RiverHawks fell two spots after posting a 323 to go along with Sunday’s 304 for a 627 total. Central Oklahoma leads the pack with a total score of 602. Augustana College and Henderson State are knotted in second each with a team score of 617 while Arkansas Tech (619) and Southwestern Oklahoma State (622) round out the top five.
Arizona Chin leads the RiverHawks after carding a second round score of 77. Chin currently sits tied for sixth while Baylee Price is in 18th after posting an 83. Brooke Allison shot an 85 and sits tied for 29th while Kayla Schroeder carded an 82 and is 32nd and Sofia Castiello shot an 81 and is currently tied for 39th.
The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with an advancing team move on to the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships will be held May 14-17 at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C.
RiverHawks tied for ninth
EUREKA, Mo. – The Northeastern State men’s golf team nestled into a five-way tie for ninth after Monday’s opening round of the 2014 NCAA Central/Midwest Super Regional, which is being contested at the par-72, 7,120-yard Fox Run Golf Club.
The RiverHawks opened with a first-round score of 13-over-par 301 and are tied with No. 19 Missouri-St. Louis, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Nebraska-Kearney, and Lewis. NSU shot 12-over on the front as a team, but rebounded with a 1-over score on the back nine.
No. 14-ranked Malone leads the field at 3-over 291, Grand Valley State is second at 4-over 292 and No. 7 Central Missouri is third at 5-over 293.
The three-round tournament will determine the four representatives from the Super Regional (along with the top two individuals not with an advancing team) that will advance to the 2014 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships May 19-23 at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich. This is the 14th time in the last 15 years that NSU is competing at the NCAA regional level.
Brad Hager and Brent Williamson carded opening-round 73s to land in a tie for 16th. Marc Johnson is tied for 52nd at 5-over 77, Tate Williamson posted a 6-over 78 and is T-65, and Josh Strimple carded a 7-over 79 to tie for 77th.
