STILLWATER — Oklahoma State’s Tom Farrell has claimed the silver medal in the 5,000 meters competition at the European Under-23 Track and Field Championships.
Farrell completed the race in 14:19.94 during the weekend competition in Tampere, Finland. The time was about half-a-second short of winning the race.
In the hammer throw, Cowboy Nick Miller took ninth place with a throw of 66.64 meters. The result matched his finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, but he beat NCAA champion Tomas Kruzliak by more than two meters.
Rockies trade Drillers pitcher
TULSA — The Colorado Rockies have traded Tulsa Drillers pitcher Parker Frazier to the Cincinnati Reds for major league veteran hurler Armando Galarraga.
Frazier is expected to report to a Reds minor league affiliate, but the team hasn’t been named.
Frazier, a Tulsa native who attended Bishop Kelley High School, has split time with the Drillers and the Triple A Colorado Springs Sky Sox in 2013. Galarraga is best known for his near perfect game while pitching for the Detroit Tigers in 2010. An umpire’s incorrect call at first base kept him from pitching Major League Baseball’s 21st perfect game.
