Led by David Beasley’s 16 points, Muskogee used strong first- and third-quarter surges to defeat Norman 55-39 in the first round of the Titan Classic at Midwest City Carl Albert.
The Roughers (8-3) led 16-6 after one quarter and after a second-quarter lapse, turned a 24-18 halftime lead into a 45-25 cushion in the third quarter. Anthony King had 10 of his 13 points in that frame against the Tigers (2-9).
“We had a good substitution pattern and a little letdown there in the second quarter and they hooked it up on us,” Muskogee coach Josh Berry said. “Beasley was pretty consistent for us running the floor and with his offense and Anthony came up big in the third.
“We did a better job in the third of getting the ball up and down the court, trying to push the ball more. The more we did the better the baskets.”
Muskogee gets 2A No. 1 Millwood (10-3) at 7 p.m. today in a semifinal. The Roughers are just outside the 6A top 10 at 13.
Tramal Ivy had nine points and seven rebounds for Muskogee, which gets Millwood at 7 p.m. today in a semifinal.
