It took a sports management firm and the help of a committee of conference commissioners to come up with a new name for the Bowl Championship Series.
Drum roll, please.
The College Football Playoff.
“It's really simple. It gets right to the point,” BCS executive director Bill Hancock, who will hold the same position in the playoff system, said at a short news conference with the 10 commissioners of the FCS conferences.
They also will choose the remaining three sites for the six-bowl semifinal rotation in the new system and the site of the first championship game to be held Jan. 12, 2015, this week.
The website www.collegefootballplayoff.com is already up and running and allowing fans to vote on a new logo. It also has a Twitter handle: (at)cfbplayoff.
Two locals atop OSU depth chart
Wagoner’s Kevin Peterson at cornerback and Haskell’s Tyler Johnson at defensive end were listed first in those respective positions on Oklahoma State’s post-spring depth chart, released on Tuesday.
The quarterback spot lists West Lunt, J.W. Walsh and Clint Chelf sharing the top spot heading into fall drills.
NSU in NCAA tennis tourney
INDIANAPOLIS – Northeastern State was selected as one of 48 schools to participate in the 2013 NCAA Division II Women’s Tennis Championship, it was announced on the NCAA.com selection show Tuesday night.
The 37th-ranked RiverHawks (22-3) were one of four teams from the Central Region to earn bids, and they received the No. 2 seed in the region. NSU will play host to No. 3 seed Central Oklahoma (16-3) at 2 p.m. April 27 at the NSU Tennis Complex. The winner will advance to the NCAA Championship May 8-11 in Surprise, Ariz. The other match in the Central Region will feature No. 1 Southwest Baptist playing host to No. 4
