Former Phoenix fastpitch MVPs set to transfer

Two former All-Phoenix fastpitch MVPs have decided to continue their college careers at different universities.

Tahlequah ex Erica Sampson, who won the award as a senior 2010, will leave national champion Oklahoma to play for Tulsa while Hilldale grad Danielle Riddle, the 2011 MVP also as a senior, is moving from Arkansas to Oklahoma State.

Sampson, who will be joining Haskell grad and summer ball teammate Jodi Edmiston at Tulsa, completed her sophomore season for the Sooners this past spring, appearing in 49 games, mostly as a pinch runner, and scoring 19 runs. During her freshman year, Sampson in 67 games, finishing with a .320 slugging percentage with 27 runs scored and 18 runs batted in.

“I just wanted to play more,” Sampson responded to the Phoenix through Facebook. “Other than that, nothing went wrong.”

Riddle was a freshman this season at Arkansas. She appeared in five games, scored a run and drove in three runs.

“I just feel like it will be a better fit and I’m excited to be at a school in Oklahoma,” said Riddle, also to the Phoenix through Facebook. “It was a tough decision but I feel like I will be happier there.”
