Bacone men win, women fall

— HAWKINS, Texas – The Bacone Warriors grabbed their first conference win of the season with a 78-74 victory over Jarvis Christian Friday night at Anthony Robinson Gym.

The Warriors led by three with 11 seconds remaining before Christian Smith connected on one-of-two free throw attempts to put Bacone in front 78-74. A final field-goal attempt was missed by the Bulldogs’ Jade Allen to seal the win for Bacone.

For the game the Warriors knocked down 49 percent (28-of-57) from the field and went 16-for-23 from the charity stripe.

Creed Flowers paced the Bacone attack with 21 points and Geo Brewer chipped in 20. Smith tallied 19 points and 13 rebounds and Jeremy McClain racked up 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Bacone (3-7, 1-0) face Texas College in Tyler, Texas today at 7:30 p.m.

On the women’s side, the Lady Warriors fell short 68-57 to the Lady Bulldogs to move to 0-4 on the season and 0-1 in the RRAC.

The Lady Warriors cut Jarvis Christian’s lead to six points when Myriah Hadnot scored off an assist by Kimberly Gaucin with 7:08 remaining in the second half; however Bacone was unable to get any closer as Jarvis Christian led by as much as 13 points down the stretch.

Collectively, Bacone knocked down 40 percent (24-of-59) from the field but went eight-for-20 from the free throw line while committing 34 turnovers.

Dametria Dawson was the high-scorer for Bacone with 22 points, Myriah Hadnot tallied 12 and Tamiya Green totaled 13 points and 13 boards.

Bacone (0-4, 0-1) will play Texas College today with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
