Plenty of gifts wrapped for area Cowfolk

— It is like Cowboy Christmas the next two weeks.

And it starts Friday with the Creek Nation Casino-Checotah and Checotah Stockyards presenting the Duvall’s Annual 2012 Edition Steer Wrestling Jackpot. The competition will run until Sunday at the Checotah Round-Up Club Arena.

Friday features the Mike Bailey Motors’ Champion of Champions – four go-rounds and a finals with the top 12. The entry fee is $500 with $1,000 in bonus money. There will be a trophy buckle to the average winner. Competition starts at noon.

On Saturday, Justin Boots 19-and-under division gets it on with two go-rounds and a short-go with $120 entry fees and $500 in bonus money. Trophy buckles will be awarded to the average winner, the fast time, and also, a 16-under incentive. A $1,000 per-man  Battle Royal is limited to eight entries and it follows. Then, the 40-and-over division will have two go-rounds, followed by a 50-over incentive, with trophy buckles to both winners.

Come Sunday, Cowboy Church will be offered at 9 a.m. with Mike Bush presiding. At noon, the Checotah Stockyards Open Shootout starts with $1,000 in bonus money (by Creek Nation Casino Checotah) will begin. The winner after two go-rounds as well as the fastest time get the buckles.

The Diamond G. Arena is now producing bull riding ($1,000 Added Money) at T-Bone’s Place in Tahlequah. The next event will be Wednesday. Ronnie Gilliam says, “You are so close to the bulls you will think you are on ’em!” Admission for adults is $10, 12-and-under is $5. Contact: (918) 681-0926.

Gilliam and his wife Linda are also planning their third annual Memorial Day Open Steer Wrestling at the DIamond G. A $2,000 bonus to the average winner plus a trophy buckle sponsored by Stewart Gulager and Twister Trailers. For more info see the Diamond G Productions’ Facebook page.

The Muskogee Round-Up Club will be finish up its eight-jackpot series the next two Thursday nights. The final night will have at least $300 in added money. On Sunday, there will be another $1,000 added 5-D jackpot at the Broken Arrow Round-Up Club Arena produced by Integrity Productions.

The Checotah Round-Up Club series has two more Tuesdays in this series, with the $500 added finals on May 29. On Wednesday, the All-Around Cowboy Church in Coweta will start a six-week added money series with $500 added the first night, $250 added weeks 2-5, then $500 added on the final night. Also, on May 27, the A-OK Barrel Racing Association will hold a $1,000-added race.

And at the Fort Gibson Round-Up Club on May 26, there’s a $1,000-added Battle of the Fort.
