EAST CAROLINA 72, TULSA MEN 63 — Maurice Kemp scored 23 points and East Carolina rode a game-ending 21-7 run to a victory over Conference USA foe Tulsa on Wednesday night.
Kemp, who came in averaging a conference-leading 18 points per game, was 9 of 14 from the floor for the Pirates (15-10, 6-6), who pulled into a tie with Tulsa for fifth place in the C-USA standings. Akeem Richmond added 17 points and Ty Armstrong had 13.
Scottie Haralson had 20 points for the Golden Hurricane (14-12, 6-6), who led 56-51 after Haralson's jumper with 6:41 to play. But Richmond scored nine straight points on three 3-pointers to put East Carolina ahead to stay, and the Pirates made six free throws in the final minute to secure the victory.
ECU led by as many as 14 early before a second-half rally by Tulsa, which was coming off a 101-92, triple-overtime victory over Houston on Saturday.
OU WOMEN 72, KANSAS STATE 57 — The Sooners (19-7, 9-5) shot 52.5 percent from the field and defeated Kansas State (13-13, 4-10) Wednesday evening at the Lloyd Noble Center. Aaryn Ellenberg led the way for Oklahoma with 18 points, while distributing a game-high five assists.
Joanna McFarland recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while junior center Nicole Griffin scored in double-figures for the seventh consecutive game with 14 points.
OU took a 32-21 advantage into halftime and never let the lead get to single digits in the final 20 minutes, opening the second half with a 12-5 run.
TCU 64, OSU WOMEN 63 — Delisa Gross hit the game-winning shot with 1:04 remaining and TCU closed the game on an 11-0 runfor its first Big 12 victory of the season.
The Horned Frogs (8-17, 1-13 Big 12) trailed 63-53 after Oklahoma State's Tiffany Bias nailed a 3-pointer with 5:01 remaining. But TCU got two 3-pointers from Zahna Medley, a basket by Natalie Ventress and a free throw from Donielle Breaux before Gross hit the game-winner.
The Cowgirls (18-7, 7-7) had two turnovers and were 0 for 5 from the field in the final five minutes, including a pair of 3-point attempts by Kendra Suttles in the final minute.
Gross finished with 13 points for TCU. Liz Donohoe led Oklahoma State with 22 points. Toni Young added 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Suttles had 11 points.
