Prep baseball

POTEAU 3, OKTAHA 2 – Playing at the Poteau Wood Bat Festival, the Tigers (1-4) lost despite Jordan Webb striking out 11 batters to drop to 1-2 for the season.

Austin Crowder doubled and singled and Josh Bible added a bunt single and scored a run. The Tigers return to the tournament at noon today against Pocola.



College baseball

CONNORS 7-7, OK WESLEYAN 1-0 – The Connors State Cowboys improved to 23-2 with the sweep of Oklahoma Wesleyan on Wednesday.

Jordan Romano (4-0) got the win in the opener, pitching five innings and surrendering two hits with nine strikeouts. Daniel Concepcion (3-0) earned the victory in the nightcap, tossing six innings and giving up one hit while striking out 12 batters.

In game one, Eli Roundtree got the Cowboys on the board with a two-run double in the first inning. In the second game, Phil Diedrick, Tyler Fourkiller, Yariel Gonzalez Korey Keith and Hunter Simpson each had one RBI.  

NSU 4-7, MSSU 5-3 – After dropping the opener, Northeastern State came back to win the nightcap and earn a split with Missouri Southern in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association on Wednesday in Tahlequah.

Frank Sprick (2-2) took the loss in game one after giving up the game-winning run in the eighth inning. Ryan Staggs had two RBIs for the RiverHawks (12-11, 12-11 MIAA).

Trevor Walch (1-1) go the victory in the second game, pitching five innings and surrendering three runs on seven hits. Cody Robinson hit his 11th home run of the season in the bottom of the second while Chad Davidson, Kegan Knight and Trent Wilkins each had one RBI in the game.

OU 15, ORU 8 – The University of Oklahoma baseball team scored in every inning and five players recorded multi-hit efforts in a victory over Oral Roberts Wednesday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

The Sooners (19-4) swept the midweek series over the Golden Eagles (5-15) and won their seventh straight game.

OSU 5, SOSU 3 – Oklahoma State earned its seventh-straight win Wednesday night as the 20th-ranked Cowboys defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.



College hoops

ORU 84, UTA 76 – Free throws down the stretch proved the difference as ORU broke an 11-game postseason losing streak with an 84-76 victory at UT Arlington, Wednesday night in the first round of the CIT.

Including a 9-of-9 effort from the line by D.J. Jackson, ORU got 30 of its 84 points from the free throw line on 42 attempts.

Warren Niles led the way with 24 points as the Golden Eagles matched the most points give up this season by UTA, 21 points above their average.

WRIGHT ST. 72, TULSA 52 –  Scottie Haralson scored 13 points and James Woodard added 12 to lead Tulsa, but the Golden Hurricane fell at Wright State in the College Basketball Invitational opening round Wednesday at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio.

The Golden Hurricane ends its season with a 17-16 record. Haralson, meanwhile, ends his career as the third-leading 3-point shooter in school history, with 248 threes, and compiled 1,064 points in three seasons at TU.



College softball

NORTH TEXAS 4, OSU 3 – The Oklahoma State softball team lost 4-3 to North Texas Wednesday at the Cowgirls Softball Complex. OSU rallied in the bottom of the seventh but fell short snapping its 12-game winning streak.

Offensively, Tamara Brown was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Tarah Ettinger, Samantha Chrisman and Shelby Davis also picked up hits for the Cowgirls.

Senior starter Kat Espinosa (11-6) struck out 10 batters and only allowed two runs on four hits in her 4 1/3 innings. Reliever junior Simone Freeman (8-7) picked up the loss, allowing two runs on two hits in 2 2/3 innings. She also struck out two.
