Cowboy inks with UCO
WARNER—Connors State men’s basketball coach and athletic director Bill Muse announced Tuesday, that sophomore guard Devante Moore has signed an NCAA Division II National letter of intent with the University of Central Oklahoma.
The El Reno native averaged 9.1 points last season with the Cowboys in helping the Connors reach the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan.
Moore is the third Connors player from last year’s club to sign a NCAA national letter of intent. Moore joins Josh Cameron, who signed with Coastal Carolina, and Denell Henderson who is headed to Oral Roberts.
New coaches at Eufaula, Vian
Eufaula and Vian have made changes in their basketball coaching slots. Laura Gragg is the new girls coach at Eufaula, replacing Jordan Garner, who left for Vian. Still open are both basketball jobs at Tahlequah along with the girls jobs at Warner, Braggs and Webbers Falls.
Checotah is searching for a football replacement for Brandon Turley, who took the Henryetta job after six seasons. Turley is a native of Henryetta.
CONNORS 10, CARL ALBERT 7 — Andrew Simonett, Zayne Dougan and Justin Ferrell in relief of starting pitcher Jordan Romano, shut down Carl Albert over the final 5 1/3 innings as No. 13 Connors State won a non-conference baseball clash Tuesday night at Biff Thompson Field.
The Cowboys (42-8) return to Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Thursday, traveling to Little Rock, Ark. for a doubleheader against Arkansas Baptist.
Connors pounded out 10 base hits with Christian Perez and Korey Keith getting two hits each.
DALLAS BAPTIST 2, OKLAHOMA 0 — At Dallas, Oklahoma (33-12) had three hits, two of them from Matt Oberste. Fort Gibson grad Billy Waltrip pitched three innings and gave up three hits, He faced one batter in the eighth, who scored off Ralph Garza, Jr. Dallas Baptist’s final tally. Starter Adam Choplock took the loss. Dallas Baptist is 23-22 on the year.
