OKLAHOMA 12, KANSAS 1 — Jonathan Gray took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and gave up just one run on two hits. The right-hander had a career-high-tying 12 strikeouts for the third game in a row and walked none. He improved to 5-1 on the season with the victory.
Matt Oberste’s three-run home run in the first inning extended his hit streak to a school-record 28-straight games for the Sooners (24-4, 4-0 Big 12) Kansas fell to 14-9, 2-2 Big 12. Game two is 6:30 tonight.
CONNORS 9, NORTHERN-ENID 6 —The Cowboys (25-3) pounded out 15 hits with Yariel Gonzalez leading the way going 4-for-4 at the plate, driving in two runs. Sawyer Barnard won in relief of starter Jordan Romano as the third pitcher of the contest.
Tied at 6 in the seventh, Dalton Daniels’ single was misplayed in the outfield, allowing Eric Kirkpatrick to score with what proved to be the winning run.
Connors returns to action on Saturday with a doubleheader on the road against Carl Albert State College in Poteau.
ORAL ROBERTS 8, TEXAS A&M CORPUS CHRISTI 2 — Alex Gonzalez struck out eight batters in the nine full innings, allowing two runs, one of which were earned. He improved his record to 3-4 on the season, as the Golden Eagles move to 9-16 (4-0 Southland). Game 2 is 6 tonight.
TEXAS 8, OKLAHOMA STATE 5 — The Cowboys (19-6, 1-2 Big 12) dropped the first game of a three-game home set against the Longhorns (16-9, 2-2), who collected 13 hits on the night against OSU ace Jason Hursh to hand the sophomore his first loss of the season. UT tagged the right-hander for eight runs, six of them earned, as he fell to 3-1 on the season.
OSU finished with 11 hits, with Aaron Cornell, Zach Fish, Victor Romero and Robbie Rea all collecting two hits apiece. Game two is 7 tonight.
TEXAS TECH 10, OKLAHOMA STATE 0 — Amy Graham has both hits for the Cowgirls (22-14, 0-1) with a single in the second inning and another in the fifth frame as the Red Raiders (27-12, 1-0) were victorious in the Big 12 opener for both teams at Stillwater on Thursday.
Senior Kat Espinosa (12-7) started in the circle and allowed 10 runs, six earned, on nine hits while striking out six in six innings of work. The second game of the series is at 5:30 tonight.
CONNORS STATE 10-5, NORTHERN-TONKAWA 8-3 — At Warner, the Cowgirls (17-19, 4-5 OCAC) survived a comeback after leading 5-0 in the opener, then held Northern off with the same advantage in the second game for a doubleheader sweep.
The Lady Mavericks climbed out of the opening game hole with eight runs in the fifth. Ashley Dunigan’s RBI single and Sammy Perry’s RBI double in the bottom of the frame cut it to one run, and a three-run home run by Taylor Reeve settled the issue in the sixth.
Jessica Christian won the first game and then relieved Amanda O’Neal, who picked up the win in the second game.
Kali Romine’s three-run home run was the big blow in the second game. Connors plays Western in a doubleheader starting at 2 today.
