With the first playday of the Muskogee Round-Up Club series mudded out, they have rescheduled for Saturday. Watch Facebook, barrelhorseworld.com, or their website to make sure the rain this week was not too much for the arena. Also – you can call me, I am on the playday committee,  (918) 869-1498.

Rick and Gail Ward  of the Hillbilly Ranch and Arena were planning on starting sorting Friday, but due to the cold and rain this week, they have put it off one week, until next Friday, April 19. If in doubt next week, call Rick at (918) 684-9026 or Gail at (918) 682-2581.

The Checotah Round-Up Club is hosting another Super Horse Competition on Saturday, May 11. Entry books are now open. They will offer a trophy saddle and added money to the winners. The horse must compete in all five events – head, heel, breakaway rope, barrel racing, and pole bending. Do you have a horse that can do all this? This past weekend in the Professional Bull Riders’ event at Billings, Mont., Joao Ricardo Vieira continued to put together what could become one of the best rookie seasons in PBR history.

When Vieira was thrown hard from his second round bull on Saturday night, he separated his right shoulder AC joint. He went on to win his second consecutive Built Ford Tough Series event. He rode Yellow Jacket Jr. for 89.5 and a win in the championship round. This was his second final-round victory. He trails only Shane Proctor, who has won three. Meanwhile, J.B. Mauney sustained a concussion and abdominal abrasions when he was stepped on after being thrown from his bull in the championship round. He is listed as “probable” for next week’s event.

Next week the PBR will be in Louisville, Ky., at the Jack Daniels Bass Pro Chute Out.  Watch it  at 7 p.m.  Saturday on the CBS Sports Network.

This Friday night will be the horse sale at Parrish’s. Used tack sells at 5 p.m. and horses follow – so if you need some tack to get started this year – you will have the option of new (in the store) or used at the sale – maybe even a new horse!

Farmers’ Almanac best days to trim manes and tails to promote growth: April 12, 13, 17, and 18.
