Outdoor notebook

Calendar

The outdoor calendar runs every Friday. Items should be submitted by fax (918) 684-2865, email at sports@muskogeephoenix.com or submitted in writing to the Phoenix at 214 Wall Street during business hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Items must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday for inclusion in the next calendar.

AHEAD

Jan. 24: A Predator Calling Seminar will be presented at Bass Pro Shops in Broken Arrow at 7 p.m.  in the upstairs seminar room. Scott Ruff will cover Bobcat calling and Travis Alzate will cover Coyote calling. Both men are expert predator hunters, videographers and seminar presenters with many years of multi-state experience. Feb. 2 — Oklahoma Furbearers Association Fur Sale at Chandler Expo Center. All wild furs are accepted, furs can be stretched and dried, green or on the carcass. All trappers, coon hunters and predator callers are welcome to attend and sell furs. For more information call either John Weygandt at (918)645-5667 or Shannon Sheffert at (405)742-7884.

Feb. 8-9 — Illinois River Fly Fishing School, Tenkiller State Park community center. Cost: $150 with orientation at 8 a.m. Friday. Hourly sessions through Saturday morning. The clinic will offer in depth information on equipment, tackle assembly, knots, flies, casting, and tactics and will include on-stream fishing instruction.Fly rods available for loan on Saturday, but participants who own their own gear are encouraged to bring it. Meals for the event are available for $30 or participants can provide their own. Participants must book their own cabins by calling (918) 489-5643. Feb. 22-24: 2013 Bassmaster Classic, Tulsa and Grand Lake. Launch: Grand Lake (Wolf Creek area of Grove) with Weigh-in at the BOK Center. Expo: Tulsa Convention Center.

CROW  – To March 4,  statewide.

DEER SEASONS — The archery deer season runs through Jan. 15.

ARCHERY  –  To Jan. 15.

PHEASANT  –  To Jan. 31, open only in designated areas (Hunting Guide)

QUAIL —  To Feb. 15  statewide (second Sat in Nov. thru Feb. 15.)

RABBIT — To March 15 on cottontail, swamp and jackrabbit, no open season on  jackrabbits east of I-35.

SQUIRREL  – To Jan. 31, statewide

TURKEY  – Check regulations pertaining to individual counties. Archery to Jan 15, Gun, April 6  – May 6 statewide except in the southeast region; April 22-May 6, southern region only; Youth Spring Turkey:  April 20-21, southeast region only
