LSU-SHREVEPORT 69, BACONE 49 – The Bacone Lady Warriors trailed by just five at halftime before LSU-Shreveport turned up the heat in the second half to defeat Bacone at the Palmer Center.
In the second half, the Lady Pilots defense stymied Bacone’s attack as the Lady Warriors shot just 21 percent (seven of 32) while being outscored 35-20.
Bacone finished the game shooting 27 percent (19 of 70) but hit only four of 19 three-pointers while converting seven for 19 free-throw attempts.
Kyna Lewis led Bacone with 11 points and 12 boards while Danielle Burgess chipped in 10 and Myriah Hadnot finished with 12 rebounds.
CONNORS 80, WESTERN STATE 49 – Connors State used a second-half assault behind Shakemia Franklin and cruised to an Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Western on Monday at Melvin Self Field House in Warner.
The Cowgirls placed four players in double figures with Franklin leading the attack with 18 points followed by Tonisha Dean with 13, Tiara Hall with 12 points and Sha’Georgia Williams with 10.
Connors will take a 12-6 season mark and 4-4 OCAC record to Wilburton to battle Eastern in a conference clash at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Connors broke open the tight first half with a 15-7 run to open the final 20 minutes of play, taking a 13-point advantage, 50-37, at the 12:09 mark.
Connors, behind Franklin and Williams, upped its lead to 24 points, 72-48, with 3:56 remaining.
The Cowgirls’ largest lead was the final margin as Connors’ defense allowed the Lady Pioneers only five points the final eight minutes of the game.
The Cowgirls held a 31-24 lead at the break, holding off a late run by the Lady Pioneers, who sliced the Cowgirls lead from 11 points to one with six minutes remaining in the half.
Connors largest lead of the half was 11 points, 15-4, at the 10:54 mark. The Cowgirls shot only 9 of 29 from the field in the opening half and 11 of 14 at the foul line.
