TULSA 1, SOUTHERN MISS 0 – Tulsa freshman Lana Bermel scored her first career goal and gave the Golden Hurricane a win over Southern Miss on Friday evening at the Bell Soccer Complex in Hattiesburg, Miss.
TU moved to 8-3-1 on the season and 2-0-1 in Conference USA, while USM fell to 6-4-3 overall and 0-2-1 in the league.
Tulsa’s goal came in the 58th minute as Roman Edwards crossed the ball to the top of the box and Bermel had a one-touch finish to net the Hurricane goal.
NSU 1, NWMSU 0 – The Northeastern State women’s soccer team earned its first MIAA victory with a triumph over Northwest Missouri State Friday night at DeLoache Field.
The RiverHawks (7-2-0, 1-2-0 MIAA) battled the Bearcats (3-5-1, 1-2-0 MIAA) throughout the first half only to come away scoreless moving into halftime.
NSU would find the back of the net in the 59th minute when senior forward Jennifer Clark was sent free up the middle on a toe-poke from senior midfielder Elizabeth Cudjoe. Clark took on NWMSU goalkeeper Kelsey Adams and beat the Bearcat with a low shot to the right post for her seventh goal of the season.
OSU 2, OU 1 OT – Oklahoma scored in the fourth minute but could not hold the one-goal lead as Oklahoma State scored in the 86th minute to tie the game then won in overtime.
Zoe Dickson got the Sooners (3-8-1) on the board with a re-direction of a Abby Hodgen corner kick. Natalie Calhoun tied the match for the Cowgirls (5-3-4) when she headed in a corner kick from Kelsey Bass with 4:03 left in regulation. Allie Stephenson got the game-winner at the 109:14 mark.
TULSA 3, RICE 0 – Senior outside hitter Kellie Culbertson recorded her 13th double-double of the season with 12 kills and 13 digs to lead The University of Tulsa volleyball team to a sweep of Rice (25-23, 25-23, 25-17) Friday evening at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Freshman setter Genesis Viera led the Golden Hurricane (13-4, 2-0 C-USA) with 22 assists and added six digs and two kills, while junior setter Bailey Clampitt added 10 assists.
